Cognizant of our fundamental rights as entrenched in Chapter 4, Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, we decided to come together as a Union, as categorized in the Trade Union restructuring Gazette No. 6, Vol. 65 of 8th February, 1978. As an independent trade Union body, we chose for ourselves Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in 1992. It was formally registered as such in 2010 by the Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions in Nigeria, with Registration No. 0115.

Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua is one of the chapters of this union. Welcome to COEASU, COEGA Chapter. Our Objectives are as follows:

• To organize all the academic staff members of the Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
• To coordinate and regulate the relationship between academic staff and the employers on one hand and among members of the Union on the other hand.
• To ensure the enhancement of high standard of performance and professional practice.
• To ensure the enhancement of just and proper condition of service for its members.
